One Down And Five To Go

Rock chalk, chicken hawk.
As I said in a previous post, UK isn’t very good. Vegas had their season over/under at 7. I took the under. And right now, I feel good.
South Florida’s freshman kicker Maikon Bonani drilled a 43 yard field goal with no time left to give UK their first loss of the season. Frankly, it shouldn’t have come down to the last second field goal but it did. The Bulls had a 14 point lead heading into the fourth quarter, and let it dribble down their leg. I know Gayhawk fan will say they had a 10 point lead at halftime. I say, so what.
As noted in my previous post, South Florida was leaps and bounds UK’s toughest non-con test. And let’s look at a team that loves to load up on the fluffiest of cupcakes. The Gayhawks are the only BCS school to have played a I-AA or provisional I-A team in each of the past 10 seasons. Maybe that strategy has something to do with the Chicken hawk’s lack of nonconference success in the past decade. They are 1-4, with two losses to Northwestern. Ouch. Wait check that, 1-5 now. Heh.
UK’s next game is against powerhouse Sam Houston State. After that, they probably won’t meet a ranked opponent until mid-October when they play at now ranked 3rd Oklahoma. After giving up nearly 450 yards to the 19th ranked Bulls, yikes, I shudder to think the potential beat down they might take.
Gary Pinkel may have to let Bob Stoops wear his wife beater for that game.
