My Top 5 Sequels
Posted by TheJOTUS on April 13, 2008
The Empire Strikes Back is on this weekend and it got me thinking about the best sequels ever made. Admittedly, 99.9% of sequels made are unbelievably horrible, so it was very hard to come up with a “top 5.” I am taking all the good ones, so you are either a copycat or wrong
By the way, these are in no particular order:
1. The Empire Strikes Back. I know technically this is number 5, but we all know this is the really number 2 in a trilogy of Star Wars, Empire and Jedi. The other “episodes” suck and shouldn’t even have been made. Sorry, you don’t want me to get off on a rant on this.
2. Superman II. This movie rocks and blows the first one away.
3. Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan. “I’ve done far worse than kill you, Admiral. I’ve hurt you. And I wish to go on hurting you. I shall leave you as you left me, as you left her: marooned for all eternity in the center of a dead planet, buried alive. Buried alive………….Khaaa-aaaaaaaaa-aannnnnnn.” Enough said.
4. Lethal Weapon 2. Actually all of the films in this series are good, even 4. But number 2 is just a little grittier. The best part is when he gets himself out of the chains–underwater–and comes up and bashes the bad guys head in the car door. Awesome. And the way this guy says “South Africaaahh.” Like he is from south Boston or something.
5. The Godfather Part II. Damn near perfection.
And then there are the ones that were close, but just quite didn’t make it:
Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom. I know I am going to get booed and heckled on this one, but I thought is was a decent sequel.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
Aliens. If the first one was scary, how about a whole hive of them??!!
Batman Returns. You can’t ever surpass Nicholson as The Joker, but DeVito was pretty cool as The Penguin. Keaton should have stayed as Batman.
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Doctor Evil makes this movie.
So there you go, my top 5 and sub top 5.

Great list, Especially star Trek 2. That is of course my favorite movie. One movie you left off though is Zulu Dawn. while it is a prequel, it rocked.
